Please consider the following when requesting your free test kit:
By requesting and using the kit you are entering a research study. The purpose of this study is to find out if online testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomonas is a useful option for persons who may be at risk for these infections.
If you are requesting the kit, the test kit you will receive will contain simple instructions on how to obtain a sample, how to send it to the laboratory, and how to obtain your results. The kit will also include 2 separate consent forms: one for you to keep and one that you will need to review, sign, and return to the laboratory with your sample.
If you test positive for chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trichomonas, you will be told where in your area you can to go to receive treatment free of charge.
The tests are done in a qualified laboratory at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore using standard FDA-cleared state-of-the-art molecular tests and equipment. However, the way that you are asked to collect a sample (that is by swabbing the opening of your vagina or tip of your penis) has not yet been approved, but has been shown to work well in research studies. That’s why this program is being offered as a research project.
This research has been approved by the institutional review boards of the Johns Hopkins University, (Application number 04-03-01-01) and the State of Maryland (#04-54).
Additionally, if you take the Internet questionnaire online, you are also indicating permission to participate in our study.
